Dutch rider Mathijs van Asten and Vdl Groep Chester Z have emerged as the protagonists of the 14th Vincenzo Muccioli Challenge CSI5*, with two clean rounds and a time of 39.45". Behind him two riders from down under, New Zealand's Samantha McIntosh on Loxley (0/0 39.79") and Aussie Chris Chugg on Vivant (0/0 40.39"). Juan Carlos Garcia gave it his all on Hamilton de Perhet, but ended up i n sixth place after an unfortunate knock down in the jump off, causing him to slide into sixth place with 4 faults and 40.24".

A second win for Aussie rider James Paterson-Robinson at the CSI5* Vincenzo Muccioli Challenge at San Patrignano. This time he was victorious on the eleven year old Westfaler Lanosso (the first victory was on Belgian Dasko in the young horse category). The Apt Servizi Emilia Romagna prize was a consecutive phase class with jolly, and Paterson-Robinson had a combined score of 44 and a time of 44.58".

Marco Kutscher, winner of the individual and team gold at the European Championship at San Patrignano in 2005 on Montender(recently retired), has won the last of the classes for young horses during this weekend's show, the 14th Vincenzo Muccioli Challenge CSI5*.

The Mediaset Grande Chasse, last class Saturday night at San Patrignano's CSI5* was a smooth victory for Christian Ahlmann. The European individual gold medalist in 2003 and three time team European Champion (in the juniors in Athens 1994, Donaueschingen 2003 and San Patrignano 2005), team bronze Olympic medalist took his Rheinlander gelding Perry Lee to victory with two clear rounds. His mount, by Pythagoras Z took fourteen fences (and two optionals)with apparent ease as well as speed (0/0 61.63").

Another win for the red white and green, thanks to Gianni Govoni, on this second evening of the 14th CSI5* Vincenzo Muccioli Challenge. The rider, from Modena, was on Aboyeur W, a Westfaler gelding born in 1994. Govoni, who was very successful in last year's San Patrignano CSI, took calculated risks as he made his was around an incredibly fast clean wining round.

It is unusual for the first riders to enter the ring in a timed event to win, as usually the later entries have the advantage of watching and avoiding problems or mistakes made by those who go before them.
