Tamoil Prize, Egypt’s Said has a “full tank” of gas in the winning round
Just hours bifore at the gala lunch he had said “I want to win at San Patrignano. And he did. Egypts’s Abel Said riding Avenir was the winner of the Tamoil Prize, winning round category and second class of the day the the CSI5* San Patrignano.

The last to enter the ring in the second and decisive round, he had the advantage of seeing nine other riders complete the course before him, and he seemes to effortlessly turn in a double clean with 38”15’.
“I didn’t expect to win, although I hoped I would. I am very happy, as I am among the youngest riders in this show full of more experienced athletes. My horse is very difficult to control, but he is strong and today he showed it. Surely tonight and in tomorrow’s Grand Prix I will do my best to turn I n a good performance”.
Just behind Said was Jeroen Dubbeldam, winner of Olympic gold at Sydney in 2000 and of individual and team bronze medals at the European Championship at San Patrignano in 2005. On BMC Van Grunsven Whisper, the Dutch rider turned in two clean rounds but was unable to beat Said’s time, coming in at 38”89’.
Third place went to Ireland’s Billy Twomey on Blue Thunder, with a faultless round and 39”18’.
Italy’s Giovanni Magaton on Fair Play and Giuseppe D’Onofrio on Lagerfeld 19, both fared well, coming in fifth and sixth respectively.
