The veterinary clinic, all-round assistance

Luca Palombo, one of the people in charge of San Patrignano stables, explains, “We take care of all the horses’ clinical and health requirements.
“For each one of them, we have a clinical folder on which everything is written; so thus keep their progress, health, nutrition and necessary therapy monitored.”
San Patrignano's veterinary facility has a modern X-ray unit, an operating theatre with an anaesthetic machine and two ultrasound units.

The clinic’s veterinary assistant Elena Castelli explains, “However, we are specialized in orthopaedics.” “Every month we carry out approximately ten arthroscopies, a series of operations to correct leg deformities and routine operations. Plus, a few months ago we experimented an antitumoural therapy on a horse affected by a brain melanoma, with excellent results.”

Sanpa’s one hundred horses get all-round medical assistance, thanks to the presence of a team made up of a veterinary gynaecologist, who assists artificial and natural fecundation, and a group of veterinary assistants who alternate every day, ensuring their availability round the clock. “The team is led by Doctor Andrea Miliani, who for over twenty years has collaborated with San Patrignano’s stables”, explains Luca.

San Patrignano“In 1991, he enabled his unrealized dream, and that of the youngsters of the stables, to come true: the creation of a veterinary clinic at San Patrignano.” The clinic is contacted every day for visits, admissions and operations. “As well as providing assistance for our horses and those using our boarding facilities, we also offer our services to the numerous owners who ask for operations on their horse.”

What about during the “Vincenzo Muccioli Challenge”? “San Patrignano’s veterinary team will obviously be in attendance”, states Luca. “Miliani is an International Equestrian Federation vet and, with his collaborators, has supervised all the contests that San Patrignano has held up until now, taking care of the medical assistance of all the horses taking part.”
